You did it! You made it an entire week through the 60-day financial fitness challenge. I’ll admit, I literally spaced posting this evening until I was setting my alarm for tomorrow. But throughout the day, I was thinking about what I would write.
Today’s task:
Take advantage of gas rewards programs
Now today I’m just starting with one. And technically I’ve known about it for a while, but I haven’t used it, because I thought I lived ‘too rural’ to take advantage of it. Turns out I was wrong.
The app I decided to download is called Get Upside. It comes highly recommended from my dad, who drives a ton for his job, therefore knows just about every tax write-off and discount you can think of related to vehicle expenses.
The dumb thing is, when I filled gas today, I forgot to print a receipt. So I couldn’t claim the 25 CENTS per gallon that I could have saved! Ah!
Anyways. The way it works is pretty simple. I think you just pull up the app, find a place nearby that is offering a deal, then upload a copy of your receipt, and it will add it to your bank account. Pretty easy if you ask me.
I used to have HyVee gas rewards when I lived in Kansas. But once I moved to Minnesota, I was walking and biking so much that I didn’t really think about gas rewards.
Now that I live in a more rural area, I feel like this is a simple thing I could do.
I currently use Gas Buddy, which is a card that’s connected to my checking account. Using that card gives me automatic deductions, but I feel like there’s a lot more I could do. Casey’s, Arco, and Cenex are pretty popular around here.
As I’m writing this post, I just signed up for Casey’s and Cenex online. Not too bad for a start!
Keeping it short and sweet today.
Good news to share: I hit my financial goal for the month of December!
