60-Day Financial Fitness Challenge: Day 21

Welcome to Day 21 of the 60-day financial fitness challenge!

Today’s task:

Share your gifts with others

I was reminded in an email today of the power of human design and marrying that with discovering how you can best bring in wealth for yourself, which led me to think a bit differently about today’s post. Later this week I’d like to dig a bit more into Human Design, what it means, and how to link it to your own financial abundance. And share a card from an amazing oracle deck that I got as a gift from my mom for my birthday, which is called “The Wealthy Woman Oracle Deck”. It’s brilliant!

Anyways, today’s task is to share your gifts with others. I’m going to be leaning in from now on to helping you (and myself) cultivate a strong practice of gratitude. One of the best ways that you can do this is by taking stock of what you already have to give. Maybe you’re a skilled cook, maybe you’re a whiz at playing poker, maybe you can sing powerfully…whatever it is, you’ve got something to offer, even if it’s something as simple as being an amazing hugger.

There’s this theme I’ve seen in a lot of the personal growth spaces that talks about this idea that what you want more of you have to become. Or that’s what you need to focus on providing others more of. For example, if I want to live in an amazing home, maybe I should learn how to help others create beautiful spaces through interior design, focus on making the space I have currently resonate with my style while I call in my dream home, or sell real estate. I think it has something to do with being in the spaces of the people who will open the doors to new connections that get you in the direction you want to go. Or something about the energetic vibrations of who you believe yourself to be and what you deserve and owning that, rather than feeling like you’re not worth it, it’s too much for you, or whatever other excuses you might come up with in your head.

If I want to be bringing in 10K a month, I need to think about how I’m going to provide at least 30K worth of value to my clients. I’m also going to need to understand who else is in that space of offering competitive services, and positioning myself accordingly.

Today I offered a couple of things: 1) My love for cooking and 2) My knowledge of sewing!

At one point in my life, I wanted to go to fashion school and become a professional fashion designer. I spent many, many weekends in high school and the beginning of my time in community college sewing with my grandma. Those are memories that I don’t think I truly appreciated until I no longer had easy access to her sewing room, and more importantly, her sewing knowledge. I miss how she would bring me a cup of hot tea, or a slice of freshly baked banana bread, and watch the TV way too loud in the other room. I’m excited to return to Kansas soon and do some cooking with her and bring a sewing project with me so that we can work on something together while the peanut butter balls are cooling. 🙂

What I took for granted in all of those hours spent pulling out the stitches I had sewn was all that I learned! And now I can share that with a friend who never had the opportunity to learn how to sew growing up. It’s so funny how you don’t realize how much you know until you start from scratch with someone else. And it’s awesome to see their progress as they grow and you get to work alongside them. We had a great lesson today, and I’m hopeful that by the end of the week she’ll feel comfortable enough with what she’s learned to start tailoring her clothes.

The other gift I shared today was my love for cooking. My own trajectory in my culinary adventures starts from my favorite chef, my mom. She will forever inspire me to reach the ultimate height of deliciousness in the kitchen. And her ability to always critique even her best dishes is something that I continue as a family tradition. 😀 I’m lucky that I still get to spend many hours cooking with my mom, learning the recipes that sprinkle our holidays and serve as our family’s celebration of seasonal flavors. Grilled pizza, anyone?! These days I seem to be getting ever more creative with what I whip up, having to use everything that’s left in my freezer. Today was a frozen white bean and chicken chili soup that my friend and I had cooked a while back. This evening I thawed the soup and threw in some mild Italian sausagw, carrots, and potatoes boiled in chicken broth. It was divine. Served alongside Mexican hot chocolate, that was probably one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. And I’ve got about four servings of leftovers!

The more you give, the more you receive.

This is true, to a point. Don’t give away too much. Take care of yourself first, as I’ve mentioned before even when it comes to saving for your retirement/investments/personal goals. But recognize that you have a lot more to give than you realize, even if it’s just your time and company with someone who really needs it.

Carry on, now! We’ve made it 30% of the way through this challenge. What progress are you making? I’d love to hear from you.
